Cereal Is a Soup

A professor told me her students weren't bringing evidence to their arguments. When they did bring it, they hadn't looked properly. And when they had looked, they hadn't checked whether what they'd found held up.

Three separate problems. We've built a game about the third one.

"Cereal is a soup."

Stake a hot take like that and Milo, your over-eager research intern, races off to find evidence to back you up. He comes back with sources. Some are solid, some are rubbish, and he can't tell the difference.

Your job is to spot the duds, name what's wrong with each one, then take a source that holds up and back it with your own experience, by voice or in writing.

The tool we use here is CRAAP - Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, Purpose. A real librarian's checklist, developed by Sarah Blakeslee at California State University, Chico.

We didn't invent it. We turned it into a game. Hence why the game is called 'Who Gives a CRAAP?'

It's running in some university classes next semester, and in our own sessions on storybuilding and applying AI.
