I built a video game about surviving my own workshop
I built a video game where you play me teaching a class, and the enemies are the people in the room. Weirdly, other people want to play it.
There is the Skeptic, who questions every promise. The Expert, who corrects you mid-sentence. The Scroller, who is half here and half on their phone. The wifi drops out on a timer. The fire alarm goes off for no reason. The final boss is a snack machine that has eaten your coins and is not going to discuss it.
All of that has happened to me. Including having a hangry audience.
I built it for a workshop I was running, with the AI tool I was there to teach. The plan was to show the game. Ninety seconds at the front, get a laugh, move on.
The day before, I made a version that works on a phone.
In the sessions, people stopped asking how I made it and started asking me to reset the leaderboard. Then for more time. Seventeen names went up on the board.
Then, two hours after the last session had ended and the room was empty, sixteen more runs appeared inside eleven minutes. People had gone back to their desks and were still playing.
I am currently fourteenth at surviving my own workshop.
See if you can push me further down the list: play.wavetable.net
P.S. This was based on a session that went badly several years ago. As you can tell, I am completely over it. Put it behind me. No problems here. No sir, none at all.
