Ricardo Cabello wrote three.js, which runs a lot of the 3D you see online. His latest side project is... Manhattan. You can walk it, drive it, cycle it or fly over it in a helicopter.

It runs in a browser tab, and it's all open source: the code's under an MIT licence and the map comes from NYC Open Data and OpenStreetMap. The README says "Fork it, remix it, improve it, break it."

He called it Slop New York. If it's slop, it's high-grade.
